Since running a station requires a large amount of bandwidth, large stations use several servers to handle more listeners. Running a DNAS in relay mode will make it connect to an existing server as if it's a listener, and rebroadcast it to more listeners. This is typically referred to as relaying or "pulling" an existing stream. All Bouncyservers shoutcast servers have the ability to work as a relay.
